The town of Njombe Penja in the Littoral region of Cameroon is in total shock following the death of its charismatic, fearless and firebrand mayor, Paul Eric Kingue, this Monday, March 22, 2020. Njombe Penja Loses Charismatic Mayor, Paul Eric Kingue
Paul Eric Kingue died this Monday morning at about 1 am at military garrison hospital in Douala following a brief but serious illness, as revealed by close sources.
A massive crowd comprising supporters and denizens of the town, in general, have gathered in front of the late mayor’s residence this morning in total disbelieve, consternation and bewilderment.
The fine politician was the campaign manager of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) leader, Maurice Kamto during the 2018 Presidential Elections in Cameroon. He was arrested alongside other top members of the party in January 2019 for staging nationwide demonstrations.
Kingue and other members of the party were released in October 2019 after spending close to a year at the Yaounde Kondengui Maximum prison. He however fell out with Kamto shortly after and sidelined the MRC for deciding to boycott the last legislative and municipal elections, withdrawing his Movement for a New Cameroon (MPCN) party from the political alliance with MRC.
Kingue went in for the municipal elections and was elected mayor of Njombe Penja in 2020 under the MPCN umbrella. He served as mayor of the town until his death.
His mortal remains have been transported to his home at Penja.
