Based on the tracklist, the album is expected to focus on the motherland (Africa) and features 4 African music stars, Olamide and Femi Kuti from Nigeria, Sarkodie from Ghana, and Nasty C from South Africa. Other featured acts on the album are Beyoncé, Rick Ross, H.E.R, and the duo of Lighthouse family.

Jay Z in a statement said:
“I’ve always wanted to get in touch with my roots and connect to the motherland. You know, Africa is blessed with so much talent and I felt like it was time to tap into that resource. The Ascension is not just talking or focusing on Africa but it’s also about me giving back to the people, familiarizing with the culture, and connecting more with the motherland.”
This got African fans excited as they thought he was finally doing something big for Motherland. Even Nasty C took to Instagram to share the tracklist, though he has now deleted the post. But perhaps most of them forgot April 1 is April Fool day. And yes, it was all an April Fool as Jay Z himself has recently said it was just an April fool prank.
