The 3 – 1 trashing came as a shock to most fans of the Lions as the country is gearing up to host the prestigious championship in 2022. The Head Coach of the team, António Conceição da Silva Oliveira has however blamed the defeat on poor weather.
According to the Portuguese tactician, the 5 times AFCON champions failed to adapt to the weather conditions in Praia and thus conceded two fast goals.
He however added that lessons have been learned and they intend to finish as group leaders, even though his team has already qualified for the competition by virtue of the fact that they are the hosts.
“The lessons have been learned, our objective now is to finish on top of the group. We are still leading and we will do all it takes to beat Douala which will guarantee us a top place finish in Group F,” Coach Conceição said.
Football lovers in the country however do not seem to agree with the 59-year-old Football Manager. According to them, Conceição and his boys must up their game if they intend to keep the AFCON trophy when it comes to Cameroon in 2022.
The Indomitable Lions will play their last game against the Amawubi of Rwanda on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Japoma stadium in Douala. They will be hoping to beat Rwanda in order to finish top of the group. As it stands now, they are leading Group F with 10 points. They are followed by Cape Verde with 7 points, Rwanda with 5 points, and Mozambique at the bottom with 4 points. Cameroon will be hoping to beat Rwanda on Tuesday in order to finish first in the group with 13 points.
