Health is wealth. This is a particularly popular phrase. With an increasing number of people dying from heart diseases and other potential killers like hypertension, high blood pressure, and strokes. It is important to know these Five fruits which are good for your heart. These fruits are high in essential nutrients which can strengthen the heart muscles, giving it the capability to pump blood along your body without issues. If these fruits are consumed in the right proportions, they may lead to a healthy, wealthy life and may also extend your life span.

So below are 5 fruits, their biology, and how they can improve heart health.

The first is a classic. Many people tend to think a tomato is a vegetable but actually, it is a true fruit. They’re common to almost all parts of the world and grow naturally in both temperate and hot zones. They can be eaten raw or cooked.

The important chemical substance for the heart found in tomatoes is lycopene. Lycopene may help lower your levels of “bad” cholesterol, as well as your blood pressure. And that may lower your chances of heart disease. Other nutrients in tomatoes, like vitamins B and E and antioxidants called flavonoids, may boost your heart health, too.

Generally grown in tropical and Mediterranean climates. The avocado is filled with good fats, like omega3. Over 70% of the calories in it are from fat, making it one of the fattiest plant foods in existence. But they don’t just contain any fat. The majority of the fat in avocado is oleic acid — a monounsaturated fatty acid that is also the major component of olive oil and believed to be responsible for some of its health benefits. Oleic acid has been associated with reduced inflammation and shown to have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer. The omega3 is also an essential fatty acid and it’s good for heart health.

Caution though an excess consumption of avocado is not advice, since it dense in fats, it can easily lead to weight gain if your diet is already rich in carbs.

Strawberries are typically a temperate climate fruit. But they can be grown in specialized greenhouses in other climates. The strawberry is not, from a botanical point of view, a berry. Technically, it is an aggregate accessory fruit. These potent little fruits protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. So all these are excellent characteristics of foods for a healthy heart.

Turns out an apple a day could actually keep the doctor away. Not only are apples a good way to add fiber to your diet and good-for-you flavonoids, but a couple of studies also found that people who regularly eat apples are less likely to develop high blood pressure. They grow in every continent (except Antarctica), and come in different species.

Both are citrous fruits of tropical origin, filled with high levels of vitamin c. Research shows that the flavonoids in oranges (naringenin and hesperidin to name just two) have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powers. They also may help improve blood pressure and can ward off your risk of developing atherosclerosis.

In a study of women (published in 2014 in the journal Food & Nutrition Research), those who regularly ate grapefruit or drank its juice had higher “good” HDL cholesterol, lower triglycerides, and weighed less.

Above are fruits that will aid you in having a healthier heart and living a better life. But these fruits can only do so much. Adding exercises to your routine, living a more active lifestyle, and choosing a healthy diet will all impact your heart. So the next time you think about taking a snack, chose one of these fruits above instead.

Thanks for reading.
