Nigerian Award-winning Afrobeat singer, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has recorded another major milestone in his music career as he has become the first African artist to hit 20 million followers on Instagram. The superstar singer gained more social media popularity after linking up with American superstar, Drake, recently in the US and featuring in one of Hollywood biggest films, Coming To America, a 2021 American comedy film that serves as a sequel to the 1988 film Coming to America.
The DMW label boss did not waste any time celebrating this achievement as he took to his Instagram page to announce his new milestone. He also announced a new collaboration from a song made by Zlatan Ibile featuring him and Mayorkun.

This is not the first time Davido has set a major record on Instagram and elsewhere as he was the first Nigerian artist to hit 1 million, 2 million, 5 million, 10 million, and 15 million followers on the platform. His hit song “fall” also became the first Afropop music video to hit 200 million views on Youtube.

Wizkid and Burna Boy, who are considered by fans as the star’s biggest rivals in the music industry have way fewer followers on Instagram, 12 million for Wizkid and 6 million for Burna Boy. Davido is not only the most followed African singer on Instagram, but he is on Twitter as well as he has so far amassed a total of 9.2 million followers on the microblogging and social networking service. That is a little over Wizkid’s Twitter followers who currently stand at 8.4 million and almost twice Burna Boy followers who are 5.2 million.
