“Copy Ronaldo And Get Fined” UEFA Warns Players Moving Bottles At Euro 2020. UEFA has warned players at Euro 2020 about the possibility of fines if they follow Cristiano Ronaldo’s lead and continue moving items supplied by sponsors during press conferences.
During a press conference on Monday, Portugal forward Ronaldo moved two bottles of Coca-Cola off to the side and went on to hold up a bottle of water and announced “agua” – the Portuguese word for water.
France midfielder Paul Pogba also took off a non-alcoholic bottle of Heineken from the lectern at a press conference sponsored by Heineken.
It has seemingly become a trend as after scoring twice in Italy’s win over Switzerland on Wednesday, Manuel Locatelli moved two bottles of Coca-Cola out of view of his press conference, with a mimicking shout of “acqua” (water).
These actions have not gone unnoticed by UEFA as the body has reminded the players they could be sanctioned if they continue to move bottles of drinks placed by sponsors.
“UEFA has reminded participating teams that partnerships are integral to the delivery of the tournament and to ensuring the development of football across Europe, including for youth and women,” a statement from UEFA reads.
According to the tournament director, Martin Kallen, the players are obliged through their federation to leave the bottles alone and they may not fine players directly from the UEFA side but they will do this through the participating national association and then they could look if they will go further to the player.
As concerns claim that Pogba removed the non-alcoholic Heineken bottle because he is a Muslim, Kallen said they are quite open that if it’s for a religious reason then they don’t need to have a bottle next to them.
