Cameroon’s oldest senator who hails from Kumba in the South West region of Cameroon, Nfon V.E Mukete has died at the age of 103.
The royal passed away this April 10, 2021, at the Yaounde General Hospital after suffering from a protracted illness.
Nfon Victor Esemingsongo Mukete was born on November 15, 1918, in Kumba and has lived through the entire political evolution of Cameroon, from British Cameroons and French Cameroon through to what obtains today as the Republic of Cameroon. . He played a major role in the reunification of Cameroon in the 1960s and was one of the keepers of the country’s history. He was appointed senator of the Cameroonian Senate on 14th May 2013 by President Paul Biya.
Nfon V.E Mukete was the Supreme leader of the Bafaws in the Meme division in the South West region of Cameroon. He however handed the throne to his last son, Prince Victor Ekoko IV Mukete in March 2020.
The Centenarian was also the author of the book “My Odyssey: History of Cameroon’s reunification.
He was also a businessman and agriculturalist. He owned Mukete Estates Limited, an agri-food company in Cameroon that produces a range of products including cocoa, rubber, and pineapples.
