Cameroon is known for staging beautiful football tournaments when they are given an opportunity and one thing that sure always stands out is their mascots. We all remember the amazing Lili in 2016 during the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) and the spectacular Tara during the CHAN 2020.
The mascot was selected yesterday May 15 during an official ceremony officiated by the minister of Sports and Physical education
The country has again revealed the official mascot for the African Nations Cup Of Nations (AFCON) and his name is MOLA. Mola means Uncle in mokpe, a language spoken by the Bakwerians of the South West region of Cameroon. In fact, people who are addressed as “mola” are usually considered to be very respected individuals and of course, people who are ambassadors of their people.
- And talking about culture, the official AFCON 2021 mascot reflects not only the culture of football around the world but also the Cameroonian culture. First, Mola is dressed in a complete soccer outfit, that of the indomitable lions and he has the face of a lion himself. In addition, he bears a Cameroonian name.
The mascot is now pending CAF approval and if CAF finally approves, then Mola will be the official mascot of AFCON 2021.
The 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) is scheduled to take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2021.
