The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has released a list of approved stadiums to host upcoming world cup 2022 qualifying matches. CAF Lists Cameroon Among Top 5 Countries With The Best Stadiums In Africa.
CAF recently took an inspection tour to different football stadiums across Africa to see which stadiums are fit to host matches and those that need to be banned.
In the list released, Cameroon features among the first five African countries with the most approved football stadiums. South Africa, the only African country to have ever hosted a world cup is first with 12 stadiums including Soccer City stadium, Mbombela Stadium, Free State Stadium, Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Nelson Mandela Stadium, Peter Mokaba Stadium, Orlando Stadium, Moruleng Stadium, Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Donsonville Stadium and Cape Town Stadium.
Nigeria, Morocco, and Egypt follow with 7 stadiums each.
Approved stadiums in Nigeria are the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, National Stadium of Abuja, Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Abuja, Stephen Keshi Stadium in Abuja, Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Oyo, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Oyo, and Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Approved Stadiums in Morocco: Complex Mohammed V in Casablanca, Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat, Grande Stade Marrakech, Stade Municipal de Berkane, Grande Stade Agadir and Grande state de Tanger.
Approved stadiums in Egypt include the Cairo International Stadium, 30th of June Stadium in Cairo, Alexandria Stadium, The Egyptian Army Stadium in Alexandria, Ismaily Sports Stadium in Ismalia, Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo, and the Suez Stadium.
Cameroon completes the top 5 list with 5 stadiums; the Douala Reunification Stadium, the Limbe Omnisport Stadium, the RoumdeAdjia Stadium in Garoua, and the Japoma Sports Staduim in Douala.
With the Paul Biya stadium still under construction, the five-times AFCON winners are on their way to consolidating their position as an African Football giant in both the game and infrastructure.
