Arsenal is reportedly close to completing the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana but the will depend on the hearing this Wednesday by the Court of Arbitration for sports. Arsenal Interested In Andre Onana As He Appeals His 1-Year Ban.
According to Dutch media outlet NOS, Arsenal plans to seal a deal for Onana within the next few days, and they could strike a cut-price deal due to the goalkeeper’s doping ban.
The report adds that Onana could cost Arsenal up to £7.75m. That is only if his ban is overturned or shortened, but if the appeal is unsuccessful, the amount could be cut down to a marginal fee of £1.7m.
Recall that the Cameroonian international keeper was handed a 1-year ban in February 2021 after failing an out-of-competition test for the banned substance furosemide which was found in his urine in October 2020.
Onana has however insisted it was a mistake, as he mistook his wife’s prescription medication for aspirin due to similarity in packaging.
Since the ban was imposed, Onana has not been able to play or train with Ajax. He missed out when his team was crowned Eredivisie champions on May 2.
He has equally not been able to play for his home country Cameroon where he used to be one of the first-choice keepers.
